Help w/ WS "Realistic Water"

Being a GATOR fan, I had to include a “Swamp” in my Branford & Southern layout. I used Woodland Scenic’s "Realistic Water to fill the swamp. It climbed right up my cypress knees, cattails and the banks. Could I have done this by pouring a bit more than an 1/8 inch at a time ? Or is this a characteristic of “Realistic Water” ?

Is there something compatable I can use on top to fill the swamp a little deeper and not get the same results ?

Thanks. This is my first layout and it’s learn as you go. Exciting and sometimes frustrating all at the same time.

Hi Frank,
I think most liquid water products are going to climb up your catails etc. because of “wicking”. When I modeled a swamp, I first poured the water, let it dry, and later added all the catails etc.
What you could do now is carefully, with a small paintbrush, try to paint over the “wet high water” line on your catails etc. Just use some brown, murky looking acrylic paint available from craft stores that’s been thinned slightly (so it will dry with less gloss and more of a flat finish). If it touches the water, it will simply add to the swampy effect and if you get too much paint on the surface, keep some Q-tips handy to wipe it away. With a little effort, I think you can remedy the situation.

Hope this helps.
