Help with a 3359 twin-bin dump car with broken door

I have a Lionel 3359 twin-bin dump car and the drop side Lionel door is broke off. It is broke where the left hand side pinion arm slides into the tray assembly. The hole the left hand pinion arm fits into is what is broke, so instead of a sold “O” it is a “C” with the bottom part being broke off. I tried to glue (using red testors) a piece of soder-wick, fine braid, figuring I could glue the outside near the door, bend the wick up, slip the door into place and then push the wick back down and then glue the other side….if you guessed right that did not work….I put the train on the track and it work once and then broke loose……I was hoping someone could offer a suggestion as to what I might try next. I would like to keep the tray assembly without buying a new one since it is original.

Secondly, I recently move to Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area and if anyone could suggest someone who does repairs and has parts so I won’t have to pay the shipping charges that would be great. I do like to do most things myself but a man must know his limitations and I have a few limitations…or a lot depending on who you ask….

Thanks from you friendly lionelnut…</

As you may have found out, bin parts for the dump cars are nearly impossible to locate. Your best bet is to watch Ebay as parts cars show there frequently. You may also be able to use JB Weld epoxy and steel rod to make a repair.

I agree with the JB. sandable and drillable.
