I have decided to move my layout timetable to 1955-1965 so that I can run more modern diesels, problem is I can’t find a prototype roster for this time period…You guys have been such a big help I thought I would come back to “The Experts”…So do you guys know what the Louisville & Nashville Railroad used from 1955-1965 And is it availble?
the L&N isn’t my road but try googling “Louisville and Nashville photo roster” or just remove the photo part. that how i found the perfect site for the CPRail roster. photos too! if you do find a site that shows the diesel roster (might want to include that in the search), search through the sites and maybe you will find that site that you are looking for.
the site i use for CPRail photos is www.mountainrailway.com
And the answer is http://www.thedieselshop.us/L&Nroster.html Craig Rutherford’s Diesel Shop has quite a few rosters and other diesel information. See http://www.thedieselshop.us/ for the contents of the page.
Ed who lives near Louisville and doesn’t model the L&N
Dieselhorse:
If you want to a good source of info on L&N diesels at your fingertips you should get a copy of Louiville & Nashville Diesel Locomotives by Charles Castner, Ronald Flanary and Lee Gordon. As for the time period you asked about EMD switchers would include NW2s, & SW1/7/9/1200 with road engines being F3/7/9s, E6/7/8s, FP7s, GP7/9s,& GP30s with GP35s being right on your cut off date. Alcos switchers would include HH660 (#10), S1/2/4s with road units FA&Bs, RS2s(L&N got these second hand from the L&NE in 1963) RS3/11/36s with C420s being your cutoff. And GE’s only road unit in this time frame would be the U25B. Also 44 tonners from NC&StL in 1957 and two 70 tonners (#98 & 99 bought in 48 & 49). If you have any more questions email me and I will be glad to help if I can.
