here is what I have, any little advice on the layout plan

Well here is crude quick photo of my layout and what I have down on paper & in cork roadbed,

the outside loops runs along the back wall then goes underneath the layout in the upper left corner and then comes back up in the same corner. There is a 3 track staging yard underneath. I hoping to put a nice big yard in the section along the wall.

I have one siding setup at the moment from the outerloop ( pretty long siding) that will eventually cross the inner loop & I was thinking going into the yard. But was also think could run it paralell to the inside loop and have some nice meets and then either have it connect to the indisde loop on the left side or back to the outerloop.

I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, I had a bowl of spaghetti a few months back. Just want set up the loops, put the switches in & run for the time being…

so any advice or changes in the track plan are appreciated…

goal is to have a nice semi big yard and simple main line… & run longer trains on the outside…most of the times…

thanks for the all the advice over the year

You’ll never reach the track on the back wall.

I took that in consideration, and actually not that bad of reach, drop the layout height down, with the long reach in mind…

If I understand correctly, the benchwork along the long wall is 4 feet wide. That is way too deep. You will not be able to reach a train that is on the tracks along the back wall. Even if those tracks are hidden below the layout and you can access them from below the benchwork, how are you going to reach the back edge for scenery. Recommended practice is to have access to all parts of the layout no more than 30" from the edge of the benchwork. I cheat by goin 36" deep and It has not been too much of a problem. Any more than that and you will need access hatches.

but anyway, how does the rest of the plan look?

not bad

Hmmmmmm…I’d have to agree that with a four foot span in the one corner it will be difficult to reach or paint or keep clean the far back corner. Also, if you have 5.5 feet by the right side ofthe door, you may have a problem there as well, unless you can get to the back corner through the helix. Hatches to the back parts may work.

in the corner, I am cutting out a spot to pop in to incase of a derailment, it is going to be par tof a tunnel and have enough room for arm & head… hahahahah
