Reggie,

That ABC Monday Night Football set is now more of a history item since it was moved to ESPN.

Now Lionel will have to make an ESPN Monday Night Football Set.

I also have some of the Lionel Canadian Grain Cylindrical Hoppers as well as some of the MTH 100 Ton Cylindrical Hoppers. Those unit trains of mixed Canadian Cylindrical Hoppers add to the excitement of O Scale Model Railroading.

I like the CN RoadRailers and the BNSF RoadRailers. For a short period of time I actually saw them in operation on CN’s Grand Trunk Western Mainline between Detroit and Chicago. Later the CN and BNSF Roadrailers ended up taking trips in Well Cars and on 89’ Flat Cars. I plan to get a few of the CN and BNSF RoadRailers from Weaver Models in the coming year.

What will you use as groundcover?

Flocking

Grass Mat

Plastic Turf

Fake Fur

Thank You for the photos.

Andrew

as of now i dont know what i will use as groundcover. i got this big bail of sawdust enough to cover the whole layout with also, but the problem is me dying the stuff to the color i want. the fake fur and plastic turf i dont think i will use as i want a more real look to my layout.

Even though, I aint much on eastern railroads, you just got to love them SD70s(?) of yours.

yes i do but to correct you 2 sd80’s, and 1 sd60. no heart feelings though. you dont mind me asking what road name do you model.

Life is good.Get an old wash tub with green RIT dye.Follow the directions on the package.Dump some sawdust into the mixture.(do a little at a time)Let it stand for a while.Scoop out the green sawdust and spread it out on an old piece of plywood. It will clump up but don"t worry,as it dries you can spread it out better.Keep moving it around. When completely dry it will break up.Pick up pile and rub it between your hands. You can use different greens and mix some black to get different colors. It’s a pain but the results are worth it.(use plastic gloves with the liquid dye)

thanks for explaining the dye technique this is the second time someone on here has said do the dye which i’ve been thinking about myself for a while. which i think i’m going to do once i get all of my mainlines down, wired, and running right first

Reggie, it IS a real pain dying the sawdust. Part of the history of model railroading - called zip texturing. Much easier (and more expensive) to use ground foam out of shakers with diluted glue. I ended up using ‘astroturf’ carpet for this version of the layout - after using ground foam, sawdust, heets of Lifelike green ‘sandpaper’; and all sorts of other things because I spent so much time crawling atop the layout.

Reggie, something else that will give your layout a more interesting topography is to cut some small flat hills with foam. Mine are only a couple of inches tall but they keep the layout from looking flat.

Reggie, is the second SD80 a Lionmaster?

(Reggie, is the second SD80 a Lionmaster?)

no the first one is a lionmaster but the second is a regular sd80mac, but why do you ask

I have a Lionmaster also.

is that the only one you have i have 3 of #7203, 1 of #7201, and the dummy sd60. i plan to pull a string of 50 die cast 2 bay hoppers. i’m hopping that i have enough power to pull all those cars

In O scale, I run anything in any era, with a western railroad painted on it. In G scale, UP in Arizona with BNSF having hualage rights.

This is my only new era engine. Up til now I’ve stayed with the 50’s diesels & steam ( PRR, Lehigh Valley, Reading, & D&H ) as they all ran in Eastern Pa.
Norfolk Southern now runs on the old Reading route through where I grew up.
I really like the sounds of this engine. My wife laughs when I blow the horn, as she works a block away from the main line & hears that alot.

I can only imagine what 2 or 3 of these would sound like in a lashup.

When it comes to my toy trains, I just never could pick a specific era.
