hershey historical museum/antique rr display

I’ll be in Hershey area for Christmas with my daughter & family. She mentioned there is an extensive rr display at Hershey museum from now until January & suggested I visit it while my wife & she are at the outlet shops. Has anyone seen it and what are your impressions.

Have no comments about the Hershey museum, however, the B&O Railrod Museum is a little over an hour away in Baltimore and is a do not miss location for any railfan.

I really do hope you enjoy your visit to Hershey, PA!! It really is a fun place to be. I’m not too familiar with the Hershey RR Museum; as a matter of fact as a Pennsylvanian native I’ve never been to the museum. However, I will back up BaltACD, take a trip over to Baltimore, MD and go to the B&O Museum, it’s awesome!! I would recomend getting there in mid afternoon, the museum tends to offer the most senic rides then.

Getting back to Hershey I would also recommend going to the Hershey Park, and deffinitly get on the ride called Storm Runner, it’s one of the best, biggest, and fastest roller coster they offer, it’s pretty intense. They also have lots of other attractions as well. Not too far from Hershey Park, is an NS mainline in which you could possibly catch some action, I’m not exactly sure where though.

If you have more time I would also recommend going to my home city Philadelphia, PA, which is about two hours from Harrisburg (depending on traffic). There are tons of areas to railfan espeacilly if your into passenger action, like the Northeast Corridor. Sometimes if your lucky you’ll get to see some freight action too. There are also tons of resturants, museums, and historic sites ( America’s Birthplace) to see. There are also many places to shop. The downside to Philly is that their is so much to do and not enough time, if you don’t live there.

The museum in Hershey is the Hershey Historical Musical Museum and not a railroad museum per se. However for a short period of time they have this extensive railroad exhibit. My daughter said she noticed it in the newspapers and it’s only on for a short period & she has not visited it.

The family lives in Cleona which is adjacent to Lebanon and their home is two blocks from the NS mainline. Until about six months ago they lived in Devon on the Septa/Amtrak mainline & at one time my wife and I had a home in Narberth on the same line only a few miles from Philadelphia. No, I’ve not been to the Baltimore rr museum yet, but have spent quite a bit of time in Strassburg & Lancaster area.
