Hi from Wichita! ETA new pics for 06archerd!

Hi all. I’ve been out here in Kansas this week so I haven’t been online much. These folks have a serious train store, Engine House Hobbies. I’d been there before, but what a great inventory! Anyway, here’s a couple of pics of a light engine move downtown yesterday afternoon. Maybe I can do a little more train watching this afternoon. [8D] Gotta go, have a great day!

Hiya Grande, nice pics! Guess we’ll be seeing some new motive power shots on your layout as soon as you’re back in the southeast.

Hey grande man, Was out in Kansas myself last week for our son’s wedding. Got back here to NC Monday. I called Engine House Hobbies for directions but was unable to make it out to visit them. Too busy meeting new outlaws and such. Tried to visit the transportation and train museum there in Wichita, but it was closed. Now I’m kicking myself for the missed opertunity to visit Engine House Hobbies. Have a safe trip back, Ken

hey grande man glad you liked kansas, engine house hobbies is a neat place i was there 3 times 2 weeks ago in one week, up action is pretty good through therre

I’ve got to go back the EHH tomorrow to return some videos. We’re looking at a new DCC system ($$$) but I’d LOVE to go on a spending spree there! So far, I’ve only bought some detailing items, books, coffee cups, etc. I keep telling myself, “I’m in control. I’m in control”… I did find some cool old magazines. They’ve got some really old MR, got one from 1948. Also got several from 1965 to show LGM when I get home. He’ll love reading MR issues from the year we’re modeling.

grande man,
Welcome to Wichita! You are right. Engine House Hobbies is pretty awesome. Great stock and the guys who work there are quality people. Lots of experience and they are eager to answer questions and help out.

If you hang out in the Old Town district, you’ll see plenty of BNSF, too. The K&O (Kansas and Oklahoma) has a shop and yard southwest of downtown near Newman University if you are interested in short lines.

If you are at all interested in O/O27 and S, the Wichtia Toy Train club has a old store front in a strip mall with a couple of permanent layouts. The guys at EHH can tell you where that is.

Enjoy your time here!

Thanks for the info! I think today I’m going to the north central area of town to railfan. That’s not to far from the hotel. I checked it out the last time I was here and got into some decent train watching. Hopefully today will be more of the same.

Kansis? I think that’s the flatest state I’ve ever visited. You can see some really huge thunderstorms on the horizon. Good time of year to go tornado chasing[:D].

Glad to hear you are having a blast Grande, good to hear from you. Have fun and a safe journey home.

Karl.

Maybe Kansis, but not Kansas. There are a number of places in the western part of the state with hills and valleys sufficient to make your ears pop. There’s a box canyon onthe Ellis/Rooks County line that will pop your ears when you drive into it for sure. Of course if you just scream down I-70 you miss all the interesting stuff. In truth parts of Illinois and Indiana are actually flatter than Kansas, but you have to know where to look in the Sunflower State.

Cheers,

Ed

Where i live is a place called the flint hills it is pretty hilly if you know what i mean, but 2 BNSF main lines go through Chase county here in Kansas so there is some good train watching!!!

I was around Ark City and Kansas City and it was pretty flat. Real friendly people! Wi***hese forums had spell check[:I]

A few more pics…

I hope these guys are gearing up to do mail order.[:)]

Dang vandels!!![8D] Saw some where that cops busted a couple of “taggers” they have been trying to get for a while. I don’t think that crap is “art”[:D]

I am ok with it as long as they don’t get into the Grande logo.[:D]

Let’s chip in and buy the taggers a dog to keep them occupied, a little mixed mongrel named Toto!

hey grandeman do you ahve any more pics?

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any today. Here’s a shot looking down the tracks by Chargill taken yesterday. Look closely, the searchlight is indicating “approach”.
