History of a Northern California Short Line Railroad

I created a website about the Northern California fallen flag Arcata and Mad River Railroad, also known as the “Annie and Mary”. It was the first operating railroad in California. Please check out my site at www.amr-rr.com. I would apppreciate any feedback.

Nice effort for your first time doing a website. Thanks for announcing it.

One of the things I would like to see is a map of the route, shouldn;t be too hard as the A&MR was only a few miles long.

Good start, there. Don’t suppose that now that there is an operating diesel in Arcata that they could “rent” that little jewel to the NWP and haul some revenue South. Would that make it a “revenuer”?

A 44 tonner will stay on almost any kind of track.

I know there were some ex-SP GP9s stranded in Eureka when the hill gave way. I do not know wht has happened with them. It seems like NWP’s former CCT locomotive (I don’t remember the type off hand) was there also.

Thanks. I will work on a map.

The GP9s are still there and being looked after (but not run). The current private owner has kept them there will the hope of being able to lease/sell them to a new operator for the NWP. The NCRA is in discussions with a proposed operator, John Williams, who worked for the NWP and has a consultant firm specializing in rairoad operations. Local railroad supporters are very optimistic that some positive things will happen on the old NWP line.

The Timber Heritage Association, owners the 44 Tonner, have already discussed part-time leasing this locomotive to the new NWP Operator.
