HO Athearn Genesis M&StL F7A vs Ready to Run

I would like an Athearn Genesis F7A M&StL, but they are extremely hard to find at a reasonable price. I have a M&StL set of Athearn F7A ready to run (powered and dummy). I would like to know whether the shell on my M&Stl F7A would fit on an Athearn Genesis F7A engine. If so, I maybe could buy an Athearn Genesis F7A of any road name, remove the shell, and install the shell from my Ready-to-Run Athearn F7A.

I do not want to buy a cheap Athearn Genesis F7A and then find out this does not work.

Thanks for your help.

Charles,

Do you have a LHS,(Local Hobby Shop) near you??If you do take your F7-A,with you and compare,for I don’t see any reason why,it would not fit…The F7A,powered and dummy,you say you have,is the dummy a B,or an A?? Whether it be a A,or B,dummy,it will still have the same chassis,as the powered one does…An F3 A,will also fit…or a F3B…If I am wrong,I stand corrected,but I do not believe so…

Cheers,

Frank

Call Athearn Customer Service and ask them.

Yup it does fit the same. That’s what I’m doing. I bought the cheaper A-A “blue box” type engines, I picked up a Genesis powered chassis and put that in the unpowered A unit. I left the regular Athearn motor etc. in the other one, it actually runs pretty well and it wasn’t too hard to speed match the two after converting to DCC. BTW the regular Athearn chassis, after removing the weight block, had a lot more room in it, so I put a sound decoder with 1" speaker & enclosure in that one.

Thank you very much!
