HO Kato P42 Coreless Motors

I have two of the HO Kato P42 locomotives factory equipped with Soundtraxx Tsunamis. I am not to familiar with coreless motors or what precautions I need to know to keep from burning up the motors.

I am wondering if I adjust some CVs to make the loco crawl at speed step 1 if it will damage the motors.

Adjusting CVs to allow very slow speed should not have any adverse effect on the motor. One of the advantages of a coreless motor is that they can be ran slower than a conventional motor.

Just never ever disable the ‘silent running’ or high frequency drive. Not sure you can even do that in a Tsunami, especially an OEM one, but it would be called something similar to that, or else simply PWM Frequency. Coreless motors generally prefer pure smooth DC, but are fine with PWM as long as the frequncy is high. Since they already have decoders, they are safe, but NEVER set one of these new locos on DCC powered track without a decoder, the motors will burn out in minutes if not seconds.
