does anyone out there happen to be a lucky owner of a Hornby OO scale live steam loco?
They look so cool, and ive been debating getting one, but ive decided it would be like buying a peacock and keeping it tied to a dumpster.
how do they perform? how easy is the maintenance?
for anyone who hasnt heard of them: http://www.hornby.com/pages/livestm_live.aspx
Don’t have one but I was quite impressed with the one running at the Hornby booth at the National Train show. The one fellow there said they were trying to convince the company to do some north american outline locomotives in addition tot he British ones they already have.
Of course it requires their power supply to drive the track, and is not compatible with anything else running on the track at the same time, so that’s a potential drawback. Didn’t get to see how slowly the can run - as if you’d want to do some switching with them. Pretty neat watchign it circle the track, blowing the whistle, and having the safety valve pop off every few seconds.
