HO Passenger Interiors

Can anyone direct me to a source for passenger car interiors? Walther’s monthly sale catalogue used to always have a few listed, but not recently. I can’t find them on their web site either.

Mike

Mike,

Try “HO” scale and “super detailing parts” as category and “passenger” as the term together in the Search on Walthers website. 241 hits.

Check out Palace Car company. Excellent interior components:

Thanks guys. That help me find what I was looking for.

Mike,

I always enjoy seeing what fellow modelers are doing with passenger rail cars.

What type of cars are installing interiors in? Will you also be installing lighting?

Here are some pics of what detailing I’ve done with my Walthers Amtrak cars. Took the tops and sides off the cars and hand-painted the interiors with #0 brushes and toothpicks. I still need to add some window shades and passengers.

Nice work painting those interiors, Kevin.[B]

Kevin,

Always good seeing your work. Those reddish seats are just like I remember them when Amtrak rebuilt their Budds back in the early 1980s.

Those antimacassars look great! What is your technique for making them?

It´s weird that Palace Car Co doesn´t offer any sleeping car interiors in HO scale, just S scale…

This will be a fairly superficial job with nothing more than seats (no lighting) in an observation car–SP Sunbeam/Daylight. Since the consist will use the two Athearn Genesis Sunbeam coaches produced a year or so ago, I wanted to match interiors somewhat rather than using my old deception of adding curtains/blinds made from off white ribbed ribbons of varying short lengths. Won’t do much detailing.

Those are actually painted on. I painted the backs of the seats facing forward white, let it dry, and then used toothpicks with the color of the seat to paint around them. Took a while to do, but I think it was well worth the effort. Much better than the plain molded tan color the cars come in.

And…there’s always Ebay. This Ebay store specializes in IHC interiors. I’ve been accumulating a number of their Observation cars to kitbash into interiors for my Hogwarts Express; with Rapido lighting.

Rapido Trains now offers interiors as well, as well as other detail parts for their HO & N models; an excellent resource for a kitbasher: http://www.rapidotrains.com/details.html

BigPianoGuy,

Hey thanks for that info!

I didn’t know that Rapido now produces interiors as well. I checked the website link you posted above and the illustrations look pretty good. Good to know that we now have another source for quality interiors.

A quick perusal of the Rapido newsletters illustrates a factory rejection rate of car shells of a little under 10%; Jason & friends are being wise enough to accept the interiors, though. Their production has been increasing over the years, so all things being equal, I think we can expect to see this as a steady supply for the foreseeable future.

If anyone knows where to get British-style interiors, that’s a bit of info I’d appreciate…

HO Passenger Interiors? Are you studying to be a physician? A full size cadaver would serve you better if you wanted to examine passenger interiors. But in HO, I have cut a passenger open, and the inside is the exact same plastic as the outside.
