HO scale Bachmann 2-8-4 Berkshire

I will stick to my Proto 2000 2-8-4 for the time being.

9 to 12 cars seems rather pathetic.

This engine runs well but the decoder has an interesting speed curve. It starts off very slowly and then speeds up quickly. The one I have runs well and tracks well through super elevated curves. The drivers do move a bit side to side but it allows this engine to track through as low as 18" radius curves.

Bachmann make very nice steam loco,s but they dont pull enough cars. Please consider cast biolers or lower gearing. I have run 2-8-0,2-10-0,2-6-6-2,4-8-4 & all have the same problem.

All of my Bachmann steam engines have very poor traction, particcularly the 2-10-2s and 4-8-2s. The engine detail is great but it ends there. They are what I would call “show case” units. Haven’t figured out to weight them satisfactorily for better traction.

have this engine pulls 21 cars on strai track. detail really good.

I think it’s still an excellent engine.

I would like to get the bachmann 1225 PM locomotive basicly the same model

I also have the 2-6-6-2,and 4-8-2. They are all finely detailed and beautiful locomotives for the “price”. I run mostly steam on my layout, and in comparison, I would agree that Bachmann should focus on traction. Big steam wants long trains.

The locomotives detail is really nice. I don’t have one but I saw several at a convention.

I forgot to add that there is a C&O model & a PM model.

Just got the 1225 & 1218, for PM great locomotives.

Can weight be added to the boiler over the drivers once you get it out of the box? I would like a couple of these but they need to pull at least 20 cars.

Read Hediger’s review, he said it will pull 45 cars.

do you have any idea if this loco can run on dc track?

I have had the Painted/Unlettered C&O Style one for a few years now and it is a good engine and I have gotten it to pull almost 30 on it’s own on level track. I love double-heading the engine with the Bachmann GS-4 or Spectrum 2-8-0 I have.
