Ho Scale Mckinley Explorer info

With Bachmann Ho Scale Mckinley Explorer cars ,does anyone know if they well go around 18 Radius curves ? I know my Athearn New Mexico Rail runner cars will. Thanks for any info

Bachmann’s web site has no information about minimum radius of the McKinley Explorer cars, but if they are anything like all their other products they MAY go around an 18 inch radius, but they sure won’t look good doing so.

Many Backmann passenger cars recommend a minimum 24 inch radius to not derail.

You might be able to tell be looking at the layout size that comes with the set. If it is a 36"x? layout, then it should work on 18"r track. Looks are another issue.

EDIT: Just looked, set comes with 22"r track. Since they are listed as body mount couplers, 18"r could be pretty tight.

Hope someone else can give you a hands on experience answer.

Good luck,

Richard

Richard,

You beat me to it. I was just in the local hobby shop and they had one of those sets on the scratch and dent shelf. I’d agree that body mount couplers call into question any tighter radius than 22". What might work is to throw a set of Talgo trucks underneath them. That might turn out to be more complicated than it seems.
