where can I find and purchase Ho Scale builings that are working motorized (Accessories powered) for my layout? Ho Scale buildings that have working moving parts that need Accessories power hookup to run to make my layout look more real and alive.
What sort of buildings would have working moving parts?
Unfortunately, most of the motorized building in just about any scale make them look more toy-like than real. They usually move too quickly or too erratically for any level of realism (crossing gates that snap down and up). Then there’s the design compromises that add to the toy-like looks (slots in the pavement for tractors or bulldozers to move, etc).
There are motorized accessories that do look more realistic, but require a level of skill to install. Get a copy of the Walthers catalogue for an example of the selection.
One other drawback, if you’re looking for something to hook up to your accessory terminals, remember that they will draw from the total power output of the power pack and can cause voltage drops on the track when you operate the accessory. Most people with these use a separate pack (as an example, I use a separate pack for switch machines and my turntable motor).
Possibly an earthquake scene?..Hmmm…now there’s an idea…
That would involve motorizing the scenery, too. Or, maybe, just shoving the washing machine up against a layout leg…[}:)]
More seriously, how about that operating container crane - if you happen to have a spare $0.75 - grand, that is! [swg]
I’m planning to add a coal loader to my mine tipple (when I build it) to load loose cars with ‘coal.’ That will involve ‘kitbashing’ a windshield wiper motor, an auger bit and some PVC into a Rube Goldberg gadget. I don’t believe it’s an off-the-shelf item. [:-^]
Whatever you find, motorized accessories should be on a separate power circuit - especially if the motor pulls more juice than a locomotive. [:O]
