HO scale propane trucks

Any clues who makes/sells HO propane trucks?

I’ve got a couple propane trailers made by Promotex off of Ebay a few months ago so you could try there. Any Herpa truck hooks up to them. Athearn also made a Superior Propane Ford delivery truck for smaller propane cylinders. They are hard to come by.

Herpa used to make a propane tanker on a Kennelworth body; I have a couple of them. A long time ago, Walthers made a resin kit of a propane tanker with a Ford COE cab.

You may want to expand your search to include anhydrous ammomia, these tankers often look similar to propane tankers

Under the “for what it’s worth” heading…our propane company’s trucks look just like a regulaqr single axle gasoline truck except is says Haslag Propane on the side of the body and it’s not painted in red like most gasoline trucks.

I say this as I know of no propane trucks on the market as you would normally think of for “home delivery” so I guess you could use one of these instead of nothing. I’m sure they have some sort of heavy tank inside that body although it doesn’t show. Probably doesn’t have “hatches” on the top though.

P.S. You could “make” one using a chassis and plastruct tubing possibly???

The resin models were produced by Magnuson and marketed by Walthers. Occasionally they show up on eBay.

willy6 I sell Ho scale propane storage tank that would be used at a retail dealer. These are not the 100 lb. ones but the huge tanks for refill into small ones. Look me up on ebay if your interested.

I think you may have to make one. Promotex, TruckStopModels, AlloyForms, Ulrich–several companies to look into. But, I think you will have to kitbash/make one. Here’s a link you will have to copy and paste, but brings together a lot of HO vehicle websites.

I recommend getting a 1.25" O.D. tube and two hemispherical domes to make the tank. I would guess the real tanks are somewhere around 40 feet long. Use truck parts made by Promotex, Herpa, or other companies for other parts and scratchbuild the rest. I won’t represent a prototype (unless you can get the drawings), but it should look close.

If your interested in scrach building a propane truck you might check out

I really appreciate the positive replies. It’s amazing of all the HO scale accessories that are on the market and of course with the exception of propane trucks. If I was a manufacturer, I doubt I would tool up for a propane truck model because I don’t think it would be a hot seller. I think in recent years one of the hottest selling HO vehicle items was “Athearns” R Mack tow truck, shortly after their release I couldn’t find one on planet earth. Thanks again for the help.[:)]

Just received the new monthly Walthers flyer and they have one of their “Scene Master” trucks listed in there and it’s a home delivery propane truck just like the ones that delivery to my house.

They aren’t the most detailed looking trucks but at least they make one.

it is interesting there isnt a propane truck on the market. Its a very modelable industry. Maybe even the smallest modern one. Especially with the newish Athearn LPG cars

According to Mississippi Tank Company’s website, the internal diameter is 83.5". There is nothing about insulation, so I would use a 1" diameter tube. The overall tank length works out to 5.3" for HO scale.
