HO scale scratch built river tug, barge and E-crane for DRSC...pictures

Hello all,

I haven’t been building train related things for the future steel mill. Simply because everthing that goes in a steel mill can’t be bought, or at least some vehicles can’t be bought. These three recent scratch builds are a must for any modern mill.

They didn’t take to long to build and were a joy to build. I still have a list of vehicles to scratch build for use around and in the mill. This goes to show that even a monkey with a wrench can build anything!!!

Enjoy the photos…More models to come.

Pat…The Betty Page and barge look awsome. I can imagine it tied up to your docks.

However… perhaps me being a west coaster, what is tha crain used for , coal, iron ? why does it have have cat walks around tha support coluum…Dont get me wrong here, I love it, just never seen anything like it as I do not know anything about steel operations.or… perhaps I just dont have a life[;)]…Thanks for sharing…John

The towboat and barge look very good. I hope you can get them in a layout scene soon. One photo suggestion, the background is cluttered and makes it difficult to see some details. I realize it is just at your workbench, but if you hang a sheet behind what you are photographing, it would improve the result.

Hello John,

Large companys such as steel mills, limestone quarrys, ports unloading centers ect ,use these cranes for all sorts of uses. Union RR in PA uses a E-crane for unloading barges for the steel mill there. I’m not sure of other places here in the US that use this type of crane.

The catwalks on my model are mainly for show and have no real use but for just looks. E-crane has made some cranes like my model,as for the catwalks use…dunno.

Below is a picture of the real crane in use.

Thank you for the kind words and there will be more custom models to follow in the next few months.

Hello George,

Yes my photos taking skills are lacking in a very bad way. Thank you for the tip,I didn’t give the background that much thought when photos were taken.
