HO Scale Superior Bakery 9037

This kit is out of production by Con-cor/Heljan (although Heljan still makes the N scale one) and is unavailable, aside from the occasional Revell/AHM kit on ebay. Does anyone have any ideas on who to lobby to get the kit into production again? There is such a history of kitbashing this kit…Kalmbach has published books/articles on kitbashing the bakery…Has anyone found any close approximations? Does anyone know why the kit was dropped from production? Thanks for any info…

The superior bakery kit was first produced by revell in the 50’s, it was actually their kitbash of their engine house kit. They also produced a printing company from same molds, different facade and details, later heljan bought the molds and reintroduced the kit sold by concor. I don’t know when it went out of production, but both with the bakery and the print shop the walls seem to high as it still set up as an engine house. For kit bashing I think dpm modular walls or the new walthers wall/roof/ foundations are a better deal, closer scale size wall height, what do you need them for?

Just for the heck of it, write to Heljan customer service and/or marketing people (not e-mail) and ask that question and explain to them the reasons why they should.

Back when Bachmann had, for some time, discontinued the Norfolk & Western auxiliary water tender, I wrote to them asking if they had one in any old stock sitting around. I explained I had purchased their Spectrum Series J class #611 and that the prototype used the aux tender. I went on with why N&W used them.
They actually sent a model as a response. It must have been a return because the paint had a bad spot. I was so happy, I sent them a payment for it.

Well darn if they didn’t bring back that retired model years later. I don’t know if it was coincidence that they had planned on re-running the model with new tooling, or that the N&W Historical Society requested aux tenders too. But apparently their marketing people decided that they could sell them.
