ho scale

This will be a stupid questions, but what is the scale for ho? Is it 1/72 or 1/87? I trying to figure out the scale so that i can work on a theme for my layout. I’m new to model railroads. The theme that I’m leaning toward is a civil war theme but I need to now what is the scale so that i can pick the correct height items for the layout.
Also anyone know where i can look for good civil war figure items.
Any information would be great.
thanks.

HO scale is 3.5mm = 1 foot, or 1/87.1.

For all practical purposes, 1/87.

presier make a load of period army figures in HO scale. I am fairly sure that they make some US civil war figures and they definately have some napoleonic figures that could be addapted and painted.

look at www.walthers.com or search for preiser on google.

Kev,
You may want to check the Web site for Musket Miniatures/Rustic Rails. Their URL is:
http://musketminiatures.com
Look at both their HO scale, 1860 period, civilians and their “22 mm” military figures, if possible at your local hobby shop. Many of their figures are available either painted or unpainted.
Also, some of the Weston figures are suitable. The Weston URL is:
http://www.rrscenery.com
I made some replies at another thread at this site that list some United States Military Railroads (USMRR) references that you may find of interest. The topic title is “Turntables,” 9678, in the Prototype Information forum.
Good luck.
Bob

Walthers has civil war figures in their catalog.

Originally the scale were numerical, Gauge O as in Zero, gauge 1, gauge 2, and gauge 3. As time when on and they could build smaller model trains they simply halved the existing scale. O gauge is 32mm, cut in half is 16mm, what we now refer to as HO guage, literally Half O or HO.

US HO scale 3.5 millimeters = 1 foot 1/87

British HO/OO scale 4 millimeters = 1 foot 1/76

They both use the HO gauge track

A commen military modeling scale 1/72 approx 4.2 millimeters = 1 foot
