HO Shay Shaftdrive repair parts

I purchased a Bachman 3 truck Shay loco at a yard sale recently with a broken drive shaft. I thought this would be an easy fix with repair parts, but I can’t locate any. Does anyone have any resources, pictures, repair hints and/or resource for repair parts, i.e.: joints, universal, etc. ??

I located an internet thread about an author, Tim Galegrud, who wrote an article back in March 2004 in Finescale Railroader’s magazine, but can’t locate a copy on the internet.

Any assistance would be appreciated and I will include my e-mail address, if someone has information.

Thanks.

Richard,

Have you tried to contact Bachman? What about NWSL (North West Short Line) they sell a lot of repair parts for HO scale locomotives including the Bachman 3-trk Shay. There is also the Yahoo message group: 4L or the Loyal Legion of Logged on Loggers. Great bunch of people many who are or were actual railroad loggers besides modelers. Join up and I bet you could find some help there. Good luck…

Bob

You can order the side gears directly from Bachmann. The side gear issue was well documented, and the replacement set is $30. I sent you a conversation with the contact information of a Parts Department rep at Bachmann.
