Unless the purpose of this “model train museum layout” is to support cancer research or the like, documentably tax deductible, I would say you have a tough row to hoe.

While I have no doubt you are sincere, I question the sanity of a museum curator that would think anyone could build a layout with $100. More that likely, that $100 won’t buy the building materials you need to build the benchwork.

While I would be temped to donate to a worthy cause, I’d like to think that there was a bit better planning involved.

So what is this museum and how do you expect to get this layout built?

Seems to me antone building a train museum would have been a modeler for years and what modeler doesn’t have or know people who have surplus equipment?

What train museum??? Whereis it located? How can we contact this museum? Seems to me if a train museum asked a modeler to build a layout for them, they would supply the materials. If this is on the up and up, I think you’ve bitten off more then you can chew.

A local Museum here in Kentucky had our train club build an HO diarama for them. The Museum did pay the entire cost of the scene when the bill was presented to them.

Seems to me we have a scab on our hands. I know what a museum would do if it wanted a model RR. A friend of my dad and a bunch of other modelers were asked to construct a layout and they were given all they needed. I dont know any person other than a bum (yes folks even I’ve got the funds for half of my layout in my pocketmoney account) who would have only $100 bucks for that. And my dads friend and his bunch even got paid to do it so hmmmmm.

Even this person’s profile leaves a lot to be answered. Model Railroad Museum Employee – WHAT Model Railroad Museum? One in his house?

Personally from what you have given as info you work at a train muesum and want to build a train layout there and the people in charge have given you an area to do it . But haven’t really helped you out fiancely as there not sure what you’ll come up with so you haven’t sold them very well on the idea other wise they would probally be looking harder on the idea and giving better backing for the idea. Not saying you can’t do a great layout or anything like that as I’m sure you can its there not really sold on the idea.

Hope you can sell them and get it done but to be honest If I’m going to suport sometning like that one it would be closer to home where I can visit it from time to time you may want to look into some type of local avertising as for say like public TV or Radio (PBS) type stations.

BEN:

Some credentials are also NEEDED.

$100 wont even pay the heat bill’s for most Museum’s monthly operation.

Then there’s
RENT to pay
TAXES
ELECTRICITY

To say nothing of Janitorial duties (who cleans John)

Don
that is done by volentiers
and there is no rent.

I have to agree with the majority. A budget of $100.00 is not realistic.

"volentiers -

Must be a French Museum.

I think this guy is honest.

Sounds like a great opportunity to get a group of “volunteers” organized into a club to build a layout for the interested “volunteers” to operate, which means a local not international effort.
Bill

thank you for the ideas.
