HO Sunoco Decals

I have a very small refinery on my layout that I would like to have Sunoco decals on. I have three large storage tanks (Walthers horizontal) that need decals for, as well as some of the operations buildings. I have several SUNX tank cars, but I would like my gas station, refinery and fuel distrubitor to be Sunoco.

My father-in-law delivered for Sunoco, and retired from there. I grew up in east Toledo not to far from a Sunoco refinery, and my father delivered tank cars there while working on the C&O.

I am serching for approriate decals in HO scale for large storage tanks, refinery buildings in general, and service stations as well as my POL dealer, which also happens to sell coal. My layout is set in the 50s, so the modern Sunoco decals that I could find are not approriate. Maybe somebody makes decals like goes on the two dome Lionel O cars. That would be about the right size for the storage tanks.

If I can not find any I will have to start copying them from old magazines, scanning them and making my own. I’d rather just buy some already made decals.

Hi Paul

You might want to try searching decal makers web sites. S or O scale decals would probably be better for you. I dont know anyone that has had good luck making their own decals.

Might this be what you are looking for?

When I need corporate logos I scan them and print them on a color printer. I have even made my own information blocks for unit hoppers from pictures and then glue them on. For cars I postioned the piece of paper and used one of the solvent type glues to soak the paper. For structures I have used a little Goo in the past.
