HO Wheelsets Axle length

Is there a chart or list showing the axle lengths of the various HO replacement wheel sets? I have had issues in the past when using Kadee metal wheelsets in some trucks. The axles were to short, allowing for too much slop and side-to-side movement in the cars. This made automatic coupling problematic at times. I am not slamming Kadee wheels, I have used them for many years, starting in the 1970’s. They were the only choice if you wanted non-magnetic wheelsets. I plan on making a list soon, but I do nopt have all the many various brands of wheelsets and trucks. There are at least a zillion of them now. Thanx!

Lots of related info on the Reboxx site, such as original axle lengths and Reboxx replacement options. I switch my HO plastic rolling stock wheelsets to metal as a rolling aid and a supposed (there’s different views on this) track cleanliness aid. In my case, I usually switch to Intermountain, but in some cases use Proto 2000. I check the length of the original axle and then try the Intermountain and P2K for best downhill rollout. I think the 33" freight P2Ks are a bit longer and/or the axle end characteristics different such that the Intermountains usually win out slightly. I do recommend a digital caliper ($25 or less from Micromart or Harbor freight) just for comparing original to replacements. I don’t try to get the recommended “right” axle length per the Reboxx charts and options as what I’m doing works well enough. I suspect that an axle too long is much worse than one too short (a bit loose).

Reboxx offers a chart showing various axle lengths on their website:

Click on the “by axle length” and you might find what you’re looking for.

Reboxx also offers a wheelset sample pack so you can try different combinations for the best fit before you order.

Hope this helps, Ed [Paul beat me by 2 minutes]

Thanx for the replies. I had forgotten about the Reboxx charts. I actually downloaded them several years ago. I guess I need to find a better way to file files so I can find them!
