HO - Which Caboose Industries Ground Throw for DCC Friendly Walther's/Shinohara Turnouts

I need a couple of 5-packs of Caboose Industries sprung ground throws for my HO layout. For the moment I’m working on 2 Atlas turnouts, 2 Peco turnouts, and a bunch of Walther’s/Shinohara Code 83 turnouts. Will the 202S handle all of the Walther’s/Shinohara turnouts? I’d imagine I’d need the 218S for the Atlas and PECO turnouts (if I didn’t want to fiddle with modifying the turnouts ground throw interface). For reference, here’s a link to the Caboose Industries page about the ground throws: http://www.cabooseind.com/GroundThrows And for kicks, here’s an installation video that answered some questions for me, but otherwise had me rolling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o10scOXiQE Anyone know of an MRVP video that might offer more insight into ground throw installation the MR way?

I just use the 202S throws for everything … Walthers/Shinohara (both the current versions, as well as the older power-routing ones), Atlas, and whatever else I use. I don’t currently have any Peco’s, but if I did, I’d use the 202S’s on those, too (after removing the spring from the turnout). I once tried the one with SPDT contacts for powering frogs or signals, but found it too finicky for my liking.

On some Atlas and Walthers/Shinohara turnouts, a flush-cutter or sharp hobby knife will remove the top “flange” of plastic, leaving a nice hole for the pin. A drill may be needed to make it the right size. Other Atlas turnouts do not have the “flange”, I just use the existing hole on the throwbar, enlarging it if necessary.

“Installation” for me is to center the points, move the lever on the ground throw to center, and spike it in place. I’ve seen some use small wood screws too.

I agree with Brad. You will need to enlarge the hole slightly sinc eht e pin on the ground throw has a larger diameter than the hole. I would add that the pin is generally a little too long. I always cut off a smidge to keep it from rubbing on the roadbed.

I cut off the pin entirely, drill a hole in the end and throw bar and use a black round head 1/2 #0 wood screw, with the tip cut off. My other trick is to use,206s N-scale ground throws, on my HO turnouts. Some people say that doesn’t work, they forgot to tell that to the 20,I have, working.[:)] I also use the same screws, with tip left on,to mount them,in Homosote.
