HO wood boxcars

Looking to get opinions on wood boxcars. I really like the Broadway limited wood box cars . The dimension and look of the 50 footers feel right. The weight balance in those cars feel consistent throughout. Looking to see if people have comparisons with other manufacturers that might be comparable to those likes. Really only looking at Accurail and MTH and roundhouse for detail. But all applies to what’s better when one finds out. Thanks

Not long ago Rapido released the X23 wood box cars. They traveled all over North America but they were distinctly 'Pennsy".

This is an Accurail ‘double-sheathed’ box car:

One downside to Broadway Limited freight cars is their truck mounting is a little different than usual making truck upgrades or swaps a little more involved.

Here’s the Accurail ‘Single-sheathed’ car:

If you’re up for building a kit, Life Like Proto 2000 made some nice looking ‘Mather’ box cars. Some care is needed during construction as the parts are delicate but they turn out to be excellent models:

It has been years since they were produced but are numerous on the secondary market.

These are Intermountain cars:

I’m sure there are quite a few I’m missing but others will certainly chime in. These are a few that came to mind.

The truck mounting position on the Broadways. Does it affect radius on curves. ??

No problem with curves. It is just that the mounting uses a slightly different type of post than most common HO models use. The trucks look good and roll well but if, for whatever reason, you wanted to change them you might have to do a little modifications.

Cheers, Ed

I only do highly detailed boxcars but besides the newer ones out there, Intermountain has nice ones, if you want smaller than 50’ then Atlas, Walthers or Tangent. Don’t forget that a lot of manufactures produce various quality products.

Thanks Ed I really like the pictures along with the post. Information about the journey maybe doesn’t make the road smoother. But maybe answers why is so rough.
