hobby shop got robbed

Hello last night on the news they said Parma hobby got robbed they stole thousands of dollars worth of stuff. As far as I know no one got hurt .They have a reward up for anything returned. Its hard enough for hobby shops with out stuff like this going on. Frank

I believe they are just mail order now. I got an E-mail from the owner a while back and he said they closed their store front years ago. They do mostly slot cars. Sucks to hear they got robbed. I used to go their with my dad about 35 years ago.

Robed? Thats one big piece of clothing.

Robbed? I am sorry to hear that.

I winder wye the spill chick didn’t ketch that?

Hey Thanks so much for spell check. The street # is 5275 ridge road I was there last year and it was open nice shop nice people to. Have a nice day Frank

[%-)]Hmm…Did they still have the race tracks set up?? I wonder why the owner told me he closed the store front? It’s still just slot cars, right? I remember they never really carried any train stock.

Bet the stuff starts turning up on eBay…

Its a regular hobby shop. No race tracks set up but they had race track stuff ,r/c cars, boats, plains, and all kinds of train stuff. Frank

Found an article on it. Hope he had insurance.

Ugh… as a small biz ower myself, that is my worst nightmare.

That’s what made me leary about e-bay along with all the phishing letters I got then and still get even though my account been close since 2005.

It would be good if they posted a list of the missing train sets. Model railroaders could then report any suspicious offers on ebay or elsewhere.

I don’t think the thieves would try selling on ebay right now knowing people will be looking for specific stolen items. They might just sit on them until the heat is off, a year or two or even longer. The value can only go up in time. Don’t forget about the train shows hundreds of miles away or even out of state newspaper adds. Of course there is always that individual that if the price is right…nobody needs to know.

Years ago there was a Parma Hobby on Ridge Road near the intersection of Ridge and Snow Roads.

Today near Ridge Road and Brookpark Rd is the location of the Parma Hobby that was robbed.

If you recall years ago there was a hobby shop on Ridge Road called National Hobby, near Brookpark Rd. They carried all hobby lines, but were really big in trains and model air planes that you flew. The new Parma Hobby is across the street from the location of the old National Hobby which has been closed for quite some time.

Thanks! That expains things. I used to go to the old shop near Snow Rd. I could walk to that National Hobby from where I lived. I see Parma slot cars split off and is in North Royalton now. THAT’S the guy that told me he closed his store front and just did mail order.

Loathar,

You must be thinking of a different store. Although I rarely go in there, Parma Hobbies doors are still open. I am sorry to hear about the robbery.

Tom

Oops! Sorry, Loathar. I just noticed that that was already cleared up by a previous post. [:I]

Don’t assume that thieves planned this out. Probably a couple of crackheads that managed to force the door open, and then grabbed everything they could carry. They’ll be looking for pawnshops to unload the stuff for quick cash. Probably figured that flogging train sets before Christmas can’t be that hard… Won’t be the first time for a crime of opportunity.

Hope they have insurance, because that is a big loss to swallow.

I was the night credit/collections clerk for an auto parts chain. The office was on the top floor of the warehouse. One night at least two clowns broke in through a window. Rather than opening a door and carrying out something bigger, they stole a few ten dollar fans. Half of which were still scattered about the back parking lot when the NYPD arrived.(psst, they ran off along the LIRR tracks)

My very same thought…

The newspaper article said they ripped out the security cameras, so they apparently had beeen in the store before, and knew where the cameras were at, or someone who works in the store and had knowledge of the “collector items” may have been involved, since it sounds like they went mostly for the train items.
Most hobby shops have a lot of other valuable merchandise, like RC radios, and related hardware, and a lot of RC radios, sale for 500, 600, 700 plus dollars.
Maybe they took more than trains, but the article seems to refer to train related items, so they knew what they were after.

A friend of mine owns a hobby shop in Ft Wayne Indiana, and he has been robbed several times, don’t think they ever caught any of the guys who robbed his shop.

I’m sure the owner and the police will be keeping an eye on Ebay, and do the usual search of pawn shops in a radius of the area.Probably alert the pawn shop owners of the stolen goods, because it isn’t cool to be in receivership of stolen merchandise, as the police can just simply confiscate the goods from a pawn shop owner and he’s simply out his money.
But for what it’s worth, I take pictures of all my valuable hobby stuff, and make copies of receipts, etc and put them in a safe place. Then I can prove to my insurer, I did have such an item.
