Going to visit Philadelphia next week. Any must see hobby shops in the area? Thanks - Nevin
There are no hobby shops in Center City Philadelphia. My advice to anyone posting a question like this is to specify which scale you are interested in. There are a few good hobby shops within an hour’s drive of Center City Philadelphia, but not all have a good selection in all scales.
For HO and N the best is Lin’s Junction in Lansdale. (My shop of choice)
For O and large scale you can’t beat Nicholas Smith Trains in Broomall.
For everything PRR and a LARGE selection of books head to the Strasburg Rail Road Shops, in Strasburg.

I would say I am more interested in O scale and Fn3 than HO scale. - Nevin
For the past 30 years or so my first selection has always been Lin’s Junction in Lansdale. I rate is best for selection and friendly service - especially with your indicated preferences. You can get there from Downtown on the Septa train to Lansdale; the shop is about a 4 block walk from there. they always carry a listing in the dealer section at the back of MR and have a web-site.
