My wife is going to drag me around Washington for a few days so I was wondering if there are any recommended model railroad hobby shops in the area that I might sneak off to. The plan is to stay in Alexandria and use the metro to go into the city.
Any suggestions? [:)]

Seems to be the best Stocked I have found in the area
Jarrell,
Grandad’s is one option, although I have been disappointed with them the last few times I’ve been there. They are in Springfield, which is pretty close to Alexandria.
A bit further away is Peach Creek Shops in Laurel, MD. That one is up I-95, around DC and then a few miles further north on the Maryland side. The web site is www.peachcreekshops.com. If you can manage to get up to Baltimore, there is MB Klein, which is a couple of blocks from the Inner Harbor area.
Sadly, those are the only ones I am aware of with any selection, and they are spread pretty far apart.
Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Maybe I can get away long enough…

I live only 25 miles from Grandad’s as the crow flies, but rarely go there. They are full list price on everything. It’s been several years since my last visit.
Peach Creek is 20-30% off list and so is Klein’s, although both are farther away.
I was born in Alexandria and have lived in the D.C. area all of my life.
All of my purchases are at Mainline Hobbies in Blue Ridge Summit, PA (worth the drive at www.mainlinehobby.com ) Peach Creek ( www.peachcreekshops.com ), Kleins ( www.modeltrainstuff.com ) or at the Timonium train shows ( www.gsmts.com ).

Jarrell,
Make sure you ride the Metro while you are there. Beats trying to drive in D.C. (And I thought you were a DCC guy?)
