Homasote 440 Sound Barrier - has anyone used this?

Does anyone have experience working with Homasote’s 440 Sound Barrier product on a train table?

If so, is it just as rigid as the regular Homasote building board? How well does the 440 dampen sound?

Never used the new stuff, but I have used the regular homosote for over 30 years & sure do like it. It holds screws well with my Gargraves track, paints well & hydrocal or other plaster adheres to it real good. I cut all my with a Stanley knife, & that is a lot of work, but I think worth it. Mostly it’s nice to hear my engine sounds all around the layout. I’m thinking this new stuff may be even better than the regular homosote, but if you get it, be sure & let us know how you like it.

Hi This is the first time that I have heard about this new homasote board. I would like to hear more about it. I have used the old type and after 20 yrs. I still have it up on my layout. great stuff. Very quite on the sound level on my present o gauge layout since the time when using it with my HO stuff…Felix

Please add me to the list of those who are not familiar with the “new” product. I, too, have used the Homasote Board for more years than I care to remember, both on HO and now on O-27. I’m looking forward to hearing more feedback.

Wow, you learn something new every day!

At the bottom of the company’s history page they say that the 440 Sound Barrier is the sound absorbing product they have always produced, just tested and marketed as “440 Sound Barrier” so architects looking for soundproofing had tested specs and a product name they could specify.

The last time I purchased the stuff was in the pre-internet days (remember those days?) and everyonejust called it “homasote”. I had never heard the name “440 Sound Barrier” until today.

I found two local sources. One called it “440 Sound Barrier”, and the other just called it “Homasote”. The one who called it “440 Sound Barrier” charges more.

So with being given different names and different prices I wasn’t sure if it was a different product or not.
