What is the best roadbed for HON3 track?

Concrete leveled to within .000000000000000000000000001". Obviously being sarcastic but the layouts I have operated were all finicky and one would have taken a direct nuclear hit and survived. It still had stalls and contact problems.

I used N scale cork roadbed and it worked fine. The MDC consolodation that I built for the layout runs well with no derailments or contact problems. I was very fussy about how level the subroadbed was though.

Homasote works well. And HOn3 can run great. If you are ever in central California, check out Jim Vail’s layout.
