What type hookup wire (stranded or solid) do you use for your micro switches, track power , signals & turnout wiring and why? If you use stranded wire do you pre tin it? Also what AWG do you use? I am not using common rail wiring but 2 rail wiring off my DPDT center off block feeds for straight 2 cab DC operation.
I use stranded wire. More flexible and easier to work with.
I use the tiny solid copper wires, each clad in coloured insulation inside a white plastic tube that you can get on a spool from electrical supply stores such as Circuit City. There are four wires, about 22 gauge, in red, yellow, green, and black insulation.
I prefer the solid wire for the smaller gauges - 16ga & smaller. When stripping the smaller sizes some of the strands will come off with the insulation on stranded wire. For the larger sizes, it doesn’t seem to make any difference. My [2c]
