i have an hornby ivatt 260 engine that is in tattars and am wondering if anyone has or knows where i can get the plans so i can rebuild it.im kinda new at this and want to build it back up.also does anyone know if you can get an interface to connect the track to the computer instead of using the dcc digital command control or however it works or am i in over my head and it cant be done???
There are a lot of Hornby parts suppliers in the UK. If you can get hold of one of the British Hobby mags you should find adverts for them. Try a Google search on Model Railways, it will give you a more focused serch result for UK suppliers. I came accross a DIY interface that uses a PC to provide DCC control on the web. http://www.geocities.com/OzDCC/sources.htm should be a good starting point.
alanshere,
You haven’t very clearly identified the locomotive.
I don’t recall a Hornby Ivatt 2-6-0 in HO (or OO)
Is your locomotive N gauge? If so, it is quite possibly running on a German Minitrix chassis, common with their German class 24 locomotive.
In this case Maerklin/Trix might be a better organisation to approach for parts and advice.

There was a Hornby Ivatt 2-6-0 in OO scale, but it’s been out of production for some years. As suggested above, your best bet would be to find a UK magazine and look for parts/service sheets (these are exploded diagrams of the model which should help with servicing it). Two names/companies to look out for: Modelspares and East Kent Models, both advertise in Model Rail magazine and are very helpful. I think Bachmann are planning a new OO-scale model of the Ivatt this year.
Hi railroading_ brit
Am I correct in thinking this model has an X04 motor in it
If so “mission control we have a problem” they are no longer manufactured so unless
you have acsess to a repair man who does a lot of old trains particularly Hornby and Triang Hornby or Triang trains rebuilding is going to be a problem.
Any one sugesting unsuitable disposal will be shot at dawn.
As the older less well detailed Hornby and Triang Hornby
Was and still is in my opinion far better than the rubbish coming out of their factories now
regards John
Alan,-Hi ,I dont have that model myself, but do have most of the others from that era and they have any number of common components. You might consider using another less unusual model as a donor-something like the B.R. black 3F tank was produced in epic quantitys I think Ive seen replacement bodies for both loco & tender advertised over here but cant remember where, sorry! Railway Modeller magazine( www.Peco-uk.com)carrys a full list of suppliers and contact details I agree with John about the quality of that era of production, bullet proof and user friendly-you could even forgive them the size of that tension-lock coupler-good luck with your search, nick
