This morning, a man took a woman hostage outside the station. Police’s emergency task force have shot the man. The hostage has been freed and now an investigation will go underway. I saw a sheet over the guy so I am assuming he is dead. Union Station is under a lock-down so trying to use GO and Via trains will be difficult as well as using the subway. Traffic on Gardiner Express has been backed up because they can’t get to the off ramps because of road closures by police and would imagine the other highways are effected.
Any more information of this would be appreciated.
I have more information from Toronto Police Chief Julian Fantino on the News. Keep in mind that this is preliminary and maybe corrected later on. This a basic summary too.
At about 8 am est, a plain clothes officer responded to a call of shots fired near theToronto Dominion Centre. The officer followed a suspect after he spot him and follow him to Union Station where the suspect took a woman hostage. The officer attempted to negotiate with the suspect who was making threatening moves toward the hostage, citizens and the officer. At this time, the Emergency Task Force had been activated. As backup arrived, a hostage negotiator attempted to negotiate with the suspect and was unsucessful as the suspect was continuing his threatening moves to police, hostage and citizens. A marksman from police, fearing that it would escilate into an even worse situation, shot the suspect in the head mortally wounding him. The woman was taken away by police and does not appear to have any physical wounds. The man had already shot a woman in the head before the hostage situation took place and was transported to St.Michaels Hospital. No word on her condition.
Nice shooting (by the police sniper)…

Considering we don’t have guns up here, they sure scrambled to find one fast!
I am actually impressed that the whole incident started from 8 to 9am EST and that they wasted no time in getting the problem resolved.
