Hot Wheels Radar Gun

Good afternoon everyone. I just got home from town, and I bought one of those Hot Wheels Radar guns. I don’t think it is very accurate. I ran my train slow twards the gun and it read it at 3 actual mph. The instructions say to multiply this reading by the scale (mine is 1:87) which figures 261 mph! I do not think this is right.
When I divide 87 by 3 it comes to29 mph, when the train is miving at 4 actual mph divide this by 87 and you get 21.75 mph. What am I doing wrong, any suggestions? Mike

If they are for slot cars ypou are probably out of the reange. Slot cars go fast - much faster than your train. Probably the accuracy is not very goo either - kids wouldn’t care if it was 100 or 130 MPH

I bought one for my son for Christmas (which means that I, I mean he, won’t get to play with it until then). I would suspect for 30 bucks that this thing would not be the best measuring device in the world, but who knows. I am looking forward to checking out myself.

cs mith Go play with it and see if it works any berrer than the one I bought, there may be something wrong with mine, I have tried several times and it wants to reed either 2 or 3 mph actual. Hot Wheels setting seems to work better. Mike

I’m going to guess that it really struggles at the low speeds we are talking about. Especially since we are looking at actual speeds (for HO) of pretty much 1 mph and below. What kind of reading pop out at the hotwheels setting? It might be better to use that and convert.

Please don’t give me anymore temptation than I already have to open this thing. [;)] I will definately post results in a couple of months after it is unwrapped. I should probably go buy one for myself.

Why buy one for yourself? You know the kid is gonna be bored with it after a couple of weeks, then you’ll have two of 'em.

csmith., I would hate for you to give your son something that doesn’t work, It really must be tested.LOL Mike

I am already going to test the Life Like slot car set that I got for him, So who knows.[;)][:o)]

Well there you go csmith, you will defentally need to know how fast the slot cars are going, and while you are at it check your train. Mike

P.S. Am I trying to talk you into something?

No peer pressure…no peer pressure…

Slot cars + radar gun = good times I’m sure.

I just looked it up online, and it looks cool. I’d have to try it. Maybe you could just slit the blister along the seam… [}:)]
