Hovercraft Fuel Usage Vs. Diesal Commuter Train Usage

Dear Sir,

An AP1-88 hovercraft uses aproximately 75 to 90 Gallons per hour. Please note that hovercraft built outside the U.S. cannot operate domestically in the States. (Jones Act).

Best regards,

Subject: I would like fuel usage per hour on a 100 passenger Hover Craft

Dear sirs,

Can you please tell me how much fuel a hover craft used per mile or per hour? I am studying a possibilty for hovercraft in NY on the great lakes
Ray Tylicki

At last check a diesal train burns 2.5 to 5 gallons a mile of deisal

an SRN4 4 tonnes aero fuel an hour 50 miles 400 SEATER 60 CARS
an SRN6 £200 an hour kerosene 55 PASSEGERS
A giffon £20 DIESEL HOUR 20 TO 30 PASSENGERS
TIGER 12 12 SEATER 380 HOUR PETROL AT UK PRICES

A ban on foreign hovercraft, yet any consumer good made in China is more than welcome here! Hmph!

Just thought you’d like to know that for years, the powers that be have discussed hydrofoil service between Highland Park, IL, a commuter suburb of Chicago 25 miles out. It would save 10 minutes on the commute but be prone to icing-in AND would use more fuel, thus could not compete effectively on price even if subsidized at the same rate as the local commuter trains.

Though the last I heard, the hydrofoil between Copenhagen and Sweden was doing fine.

Why do you keep insisting that locomotives burn such large amounts of fuel, when clearly they don’t. The typical locomotive spends less than 10% of its time at full throttle. Sorry, I really don’t see the reasoning behing your posts with this false information.

I think this thread should win the stupidest question award…

What next. Whats more fuel effcient…a rocket or a locomotive? I am trying to convince my local town that a commuter rocket line would be soooo much more practical. [8][}:)]

Commuter rockets…How about giant slingshots? they are pretty fuel efficient…and fast.

Wow…I feel dumber for having read this thread [B)][banghead]

What are hovercraft I thought they were like boats, and had nothing to do with railroading. Am I confused?
