Hello All! I was just thinking how well a line of Humerous Rolling Stock from the Train Companies would sell? With Names such as: The Charley Horse Dog Food Co, The Sore Gum Candy Company, Star Horse Breath mints for Dogs with Horse Breath.& Billboards with advertisements for: Chacko Bell Truckstops- “Eat here, Get Gas as well” Or the famous “Roseyville Grits Mill on top of a Rock Hill”[;)][:o)][:)] Think of it ! No License fees for the Companies & a line of Humerous Rolling Stock that can be a crowd pleaser on your layout or in a museum! With all of the troubles & monkeyshines going on today in our World this could be a real stress reliever. What do you think?[:)]

Yeah why doesn’t someone get brave and make a few TOY TRAINS!? Also why not make it quite clear that this is a seperate line in case anyones worried that one joke train will devalue the sacred image.
Lionel could use the K-Line name for this and since they will all be nice short, bright, shiny TOY TRAINS they could maybe reflect that in the pricing? Try it as an experiment and see which moves the most product, you might get a pleasant surprise.
Not that I’m picking on Lionel I’m not and they do make toy trains, whats the missile car and the alien car, certainly not serious! I think, though, that some imaginative product design and toy design could do well to attract more kids. Look what some of the others do, there are a couple of toy systems that combine rail with road vehicles and snap together construction toys that allow users to build their own interactive systems.
I have to admit I’m biased against the ‘scale’ end of things. They sure are nice but I can always go to a museum if I want to see perfect replicas, or join a rivet counters club. What I want more of is the fun stuff, preferably something like Meccano/Erector/Lego combined with a railroad system which is specifically designed to go well with it. Most of my Lionel stuff has been experimented with using Lego, for example, I built a Lego dynamometer which supports the engine and lets it be run and produces voltmeter readings, I’m working on drawbar pull.
Well, an inside source told me that the makers of the “Beep” are coming out with a mini GG-1. It’s going to be called the G-spot.

Thor, I feel very much the same as you. I like the whimsical, non-scale things, especially the cartoon character handcars, and I have always preferred the chunky look of the shortened locos and rollingstock. I like the look of a 4 wheel bobber caboose as compared to the standard style. I guess a manufacturer has to consider what will sell best, but I see where LGB has offered whimsical stuff and apparently done very well. I am most fond of Lionel’s Snoopy and Woodstock handcar from about 1990 and I have an area on my layout where I built an elevator for a gold mining theme “rollercoaster” just for that handcar: http://yourpage.blazenet.net/jprampolla/Mine.html Guests love that handcar, adults as well as children, often asking where they can buy one, and I have been hoping Lionel would make a new version since I believe it would be very successful for them and bring new blood into the hobby. They could offer it with a simple oval of track and a wall type transformer, perfect for under the tree or on a coffee table.
Best we can do is hope the manufactures are watching these posts!

Grits ‘R’ Us & “Chief Eagles Sweet Ice Tea”[;)][:)][:o)] Those two suggestions would look very good on a line of Billboard Reefers & A Picture of BB the Beagle on a Billboard Reefer with a Peanut Butter product would be very Humerous as well.(Dave has a photo of BB licking the inside of a Peanut Butter Jar) Paul- The Ostrich photo in your profile is another example for some thing humerous. The Ostrich can be a advertisement for Paint with a caption that says:" The fumes were gettin’ to me until I switched to Kapoosta Paint Companies Fume-Free Paint made from natural products, Now I do not suffer anymore headaches from fumes & I can finally taste my food again"[;)][:)][:o)] Let’s see some more replies.
