With the bridges thread and the elevated station, how about some tracks running through city streets. I may sound hypocritical, but I don’t currently have a layout so I can’t post any pics.
I am sans layout too, but here is a favorite street-scene of mine.
Mark
You mean this?

Wolfgang
Nice one, Wolfgang!
Hi,
Just thought I would do an upgrade.

Blaine
I don’t have any model shots of street running…“wish I did [:-^]”.
Here’s some shots of some “real” street running. Both CSX and NS use these tracks.

Amazing pictures everybody, I had no idea trains like those still ran in the streets.
A couple of shots from my layout.

Tom
Not a model, but my favorite:

Don’t know how to post photos here but there is street running here on "A"Street for eight blocks from 2nd Street west to 6th Street East here in town. The trains in the street catch the foreigners everytime. Us locals are used to them.
A Hi-Rail truck really catches everybody.
Tom what kind of material did you use for your street and how thick? This is a very good job.
This thing looks cool. I want one in H0!
There’s (at least) two kinds of “tracks in streets”: the industrial type with all kinds of fascinating puzzlework, and the mainline type. Here in Oakland, the mainline goes down Embarcadero for 5 blocks–right past Jack London Square–lotsa passenger, lotsa freight.
Any other places where Amtrak runs on streets in a major city?
Ed
PS: On occasion, someone will be driving down Embarcadero and go straight onto the ballasted tracks instead of jogging to follow the street as it changes to become parallel to the tracks. Ever so slightly embarrassing, I should think. Someday there’ll probably be some sort of gates across the tracks so people can’t drive onto them–just a little bit less selection pressure. I’ve seen it maybe three times, and it’s always a visual surprise.
