I’ll be setting down some senery this weekend and was wondering how do you make a good looking deciduous tree,(Maple, Oak, Bass, ect.). I’ve heard you can use wire or sticks/dried plants. The Super Trees(By scenic express?) look nice but I don’t need that many. Just a few.
Here’s the way i made mine
I normally use a combination of wire and twigs. For fine branches I use coconut fibres [from hanging basket liners] pre-painted and glued on.To date I’ve used mostly Woodland Scenics foliage mat plus some Heki leaves, but Noch make some good-looking leaves that are well-worth a look, and I hope to get some one day.
The tall tree is based on a twig, with some wire branches and some added twigs, plus coconut fibre and pieces of W.S light green foliage mat. I disguise the wire with DAS clay. This is a specimen tree, so once it was planted I fashioned some roots with DAS.
The smaller shrub shows the Heki bright green leaves over the same W.S. foliage mat, and is based on a mass of coconut fibres.
Hoping this helps a bit.

you will need: Armiture, leaf material, paint for coloring and maybe microfiber for branch structure
Super trees are good, as are garden plants such as Baby’s breath, Queen of the Praire, and many others. Sage Brush makes a great Oak. From Michials try Candy Tuft. Some of the plants need several branches stuck together with Florist’s tape.
For a full looking tree, small tufts f microfiber stuck to the branches helps. For hill side, just ballsa of micrfiber with a leaf material
For leaf material I have had best luck with WS ground foam and Noch’s leaf material
I put everything together with hairspray.
This is very general. For specific trees several of us are willing to help. I have some pics in my sig. of some of the things I have worked on.
There is a learning curve to trees and expermentation is more important than education.
Yes - experiment with all sorts of things, and please show us the results!
One English article I read made use of the electric cable for a welder - there are countless fine wires in it.
