how do we make trees?

well i got the foam painted and grassed. while it dries and my squeeze bottle hand recovers im wanting to make some trees.

copper wire used to be the route but im curious as to how you all make them nowadays.

much thanks as always ,john

I used “Supertrees” by Scenic Express. One bag yielded over 300 trees of various sizes in N-scale. It’s labor intensive, but for pennies a tree you can’t beat the price. The trees came out pretty nice too:

I have recently tried all the methods discussed on this forum and in Sassi’s book. They all work and if you like trees you need to learn them all or your forest will look like it only has one species of tree.

Aggro’s furnace filter on a stick makes great spruce and balsam. Old fashoined weeds in holes drilled in a dowel make great White Pine. WS foam on weeds make great deciduous. Queen of Praire flowers painted make great birch and pople. My Weeping Willow out of Quack Grass leaves much to be desired. Candy Flower from the craft store makes great Oak, Spiria makes great Elm. And so on. Take a walk in the woods this time of year with your modeler’s eye and you will see that Nature likes to duplicate itself in miniture. The more I make, the better they look. If you like the process making trees is a blast. Many of us would be willing to reproduce the previous threads showing what we have tried and how it works. Here is one of my woods scenes.

Here are my birch

Have fun and keep us posted. We are all learning together.

wow yes those are very nice. excellent job well done.

thank you for their link also. best regards, john

i been away wat too long. man that is super. ill absolutely take me a stroll in the woods even florida has some changes.and it will give me a feel for how things go together. im honored for you all to even show me those much less trying to teach me.

man thats absolutely great work. johns in awe

Welcome John to the best part of the sport. We love to share what we have a recieved from others. There have been discussions of this and will be more. I purchase some WS stuff but trees come better from a craft store, I use Michaels in Minnesota, and my wife’s garden. I get color from the cheapest spray cans in the hardware store. As you experment, lets talk species by species. Here are a couple of pines. Good enough but certainly room for improvment.

I admit it. I’m lazy. My trees come from a bag, WS Ready-Made Bulk packs.

Nick

i always really enjoyed making trees and sure would like to get species specific as i progress in my abilities. ill search for previous clinics and am looking forward to any pointers on how to make more realistic trees.

much thanks to you forestry agents…

Nice work on your trees, and your birch tress are particularly stunning!

My Wife makes most of our Trees, a trek into the scrub yields a host of Twigs from
the bushes as we pass. Catherine then teases up a Scouring Pad into folige to her
taste, then a fine spray of diluted water based glue and roll said folige in a tray of
Greens & Brown Flok. You can`t beat real Tree Twigs for looking like real Trees.
