I have now 40 bottles of 17ml of Vallejo paint and I am searching for a rack or something to organize them. A few weeks ago, I bought a Vallejo paint stand but I threw it in the garbage because it was cheap and not sturdy.
How do you organize your paint bottles? Do you have pictures, links of a product you bought or something you built?
If you are looking for a desk-top stand, head to the Dollar Tree. They sell clear acrylic lipstick stands for $1.00 that hold twelve bottles of Vallejo paint perfectly. I used these in my “dorm room” in Tampa, and they were perfect.
You want the one with 12 lipstick compartments and a tray on top. They sell a simlar one with 16 lipstick compartments, but the sizes are slightly smaller, and the Vallejo bottles do not fit quite right.
In my home workshop I use a Kobalt tool cab where I have outfitted one drawer to store my Vallejo paints. I cut short sections of 1" schedule 40 PVC to hold the bottles. This works excellent.
This is a Standard 26 inch wide roll cab, and the drawer will hold over 200 bottles of paint.
I have a shelving unit I made just for paints. It is a box that has shelves just a little wider than the paints I have and a simple adjstiable shelves so that as things change the shelves can change.
You can take a 2" x 10" or a 2" x 6" and drill holes in it to hold the paint. You can then lift the whole board to the desk or elsewhere when it comes time to paint. Do not drill right through the board or the bottles will fall out when you lift the board.[swg]
I told ‘em to line-up, single file and spaced 6’ (HO) apart, wearing masks, but they apparently ignored me.
I generally know roughly where the paint I want to use is located, but I don’t really have all that much, maybe just over a couple hundred bottles…many of them multiples of the same colours, and many custom-mixed for specific end uses.
