How do you pronounce "gondola"?

“Your Honor, the two yoots had nothing to do with robbing that store.”

Jim

who cares how it’s pronounced?..just switch it over there onto the siding…[:D]…chuck

This ones easy to answer, just think of the sound you would hear if Homer Simpson and Tim Taylor both saw a quarter on the floor and reached for it at the same time…

GONG! DO’H! AAAAAAAAAHHHH?

Gon doe la. In other words the los angles doe is gone…

Where did THAT come from! I need more sleep.

Didn’t mean to bring up an old thread, but this one’s still bugging me. I say gon do’ la. I agree a gon’ do la is a boat in Venice!

I think we need the help of a full-scale professional here. C’mon, we all know how to say “hopper”!!!

Ozoneone:

If you’re in Venice, you smile at the boatman and say GON-doh-lah, accent on the first syllable, as if you were pronouncing the word “Go.” And carry out the first syllable for as long as you can, smiling all the time. It’ll keep you in the right Canal, believe me.

If you’re out here in the West Coast, you usually pronounce it GAWN-duh-luh, but not neccesarily always. “Gawn–DOH–luh.” is a pretty popular variation. I understand it’s different in a lot of other parts of the country. For instance, it’s always a shock for a Californian to hear “El Dorado” (“El-Doh-RAH-doe”) prounounced in Kansas (“L-dur-AY-duh”), but that’s purely a regional difference. For me, a gondola is “that flat car with the side thingys on it.”

Tom

They aren’t pronounced like the boat in Venice. I saw that on the Modern Marvels TV show on Freight Trains. That’s what a RR historian in it said anyway.

The way I was taught years ago…GON.

Simple yes?

Me thinks it all depends on what side of the creek-crick your on!!! [:-^][(-D]
