How do your generate/import these pictures ?

Note to Zak Gardner (I can’t get your pictures to copy & paste) — how do you and a number of other posters on this forum generate those broadside train consist graphics?

MR’s forum does not host photos you see on it, they are hosted on another website with links to them. One such free hosting site is www.photobucket.com Upload your photos there, and they provide both URLs and image tags [ IMG } under each photo. Juct copy the IMG tags and paste them into your message. The IMG tag tells the forum software to get your photos from Photobucket or other site. Sounds complicated, but is simple when you get into it.

Keep your uploaded photos to no wider than 800 pixels so they won’t be too large.

Good luck!

I understand what you’re saying about photo links but this is not what I’m asking about.

If you take a look at the sign-offs some of the guys on the forum have at the ends of their posts, there’s a graphic — NOT a photograph — of a train broadside — various kinds of trains, but all authentic and quite professional-looking. THAT’s what I want to know: how are those generated?

If you mean the image with a persons name on it they are referred to as Siggies, You willl need a paint program i prefer paint shop pro. Not hard to get and great fun, You take your image and place your name on it. It may take a few trys to get the look you are looking for.
If you mean the animated images you will need an animation program. You will need the photos or images you want to use and place them in sequence and animate it. Hope that helps.

Yikes!

Those are called .gif files and can be found by putting the term train .gif into Google.

Unusually large signatures on forums such as this often make message threads slow to open, especially for those who do not have high speed Internet access. Long threads take longer to open. I chose the option in my profile not to see these signatures, as they don’t add anything to the message other than make them slow.

Wow!! Thank you for that lead to train.gif. I had no idea there were repositories of stuff for shared use, and I couldn’t imagine where these guys were getting them from.

Yes, I do understand that stuff like this eats up bandwidth. Fortunately I have enough.

It’s not your bandwidth I was referring to, but that of others who open messages with tons of animations and large photos in the signatures that slow things way down. Imagine trying to open a thread with 10-20 replies, and many of them each having large files incorporated into them that do absolutely nothing to further the info.
