How to add recessed brake wheel

I’m working on my first kitbash on an old athearn blue box SD40-2. My prototype has a recessed brake well on the front of the locomotive. How would I go about adding this? Is there a part that I can buy that will have this cavity pre built or will I have to get fancy with the styrene? Thank you for your time.

The Old Athearn blue box locos had oversize hoods, so not sure how applicable scale-width hood parts are to your loco. The nose may not matter, it’s been awhile since I looked at one. Here’s a link to some parts options that may help: http://shop.cannonandco.net/category.sc;jsessionid=B133329FE46E967641B0A534D1A0EF79.p3plqscsfapp006?categoryId=3

Cannon & Company makes a recessed brake panel that fits their nose, so it may be easier just to buy their replacement nose along with the recessed brake panel.

Starting with the GP-38-2/40-2 and SD40-2 all Athearn blue box have scale width hoods.

So your saying that my model is or isn’t prototypical?
