I live in central Texas and neither the locat Lowe’s or Home Depot carry 2" extruded foam because it doesn’t get cold enough here apparently. Although they sell it in northern locations, the local locations say they can’t order small quanitites for my individual purchase. Any ideas how I can get 2" extruded foam insulattin boards in central Texas? Thanks for you reply.
I’m not from Texas, but have you tried other hardware/lumber stores? You may need to get 1" and stack it; otherwise, plan a road trip…
HD should show it BUT you may need to type in a ZIP code in" YOUR STORE " for say northern texas or southern colorado or try a search in the dow- owens/corning sites …good luck …Jerry
I live in New Braunfels Tx and have not found more than 3/4" around here. I didn’t ask HD if I could order a couple of 2". Please keep us updated if you solve this.
being in so calif I 've went thru the same as you, AND no they cant order just a few sheets they must order a truck load unless theres a store in their grouping that stocks it, this is a geogaphic stock item and not normaly stocked in the southern areas . BUT if you mess with the zip code in your seach you mite find some, some what close …I did finalliy find in one HD in so cal…good luck Jerry
Thanks for the reply. You are in better luck than I am living in New Braunfels. I just spoke with ARCAT, Inc. in San Antonio. They carry the Dow extruded foam board 2" thick – $35 per 4’ x 8’ sheet. They suggest you call to make sure they have in their inventory. Also have other thinknesses if you’re interrested. Not open on Saturdays. There phone number is 336-789-9161 and website Is:

Seemed helpful and friendly.
Guess I’ll have to take a full day to drive down there.
What Thinkless do they Sell? You can glue them together with a foam freiendly adhesive like liquid nails in the BLUE tube
I just glue together multiple layers of 3/4" but I did contact the distributor in downtown Houston and they do carry 2" for contractors on special projects. They said you can purchase a sheet or two if you pick it up. Just saw some 2" on a grocery store remodeling in Brenham, TX so it is available if you want to go to the trouble to get it.
I bought some (years ago) from a roofing contractor in Corpus Christi. Out in an industrial park, not in a big box store along the expressway…
Similarly, got 4x8 styrene sheet from a specialty plastics supplier out in the industrial district.
A friend living near Houston used foam for his layout - if you’re not too far from that area, I can ask him where he got the stuff.
I’m really surprised that insulation isn’t used in hotter climates. Your cooling costs must be outrageous. I’m in southern Ontario, where temperatures are fairly moderate. It seldom drops below 0°F in the winter and about 90°F is about the hottest it gets in summer (and summers aren’t that long) . My house is well insulated, and heated electrically, but I generally spend more for cooling, even though we keep the thermostat at about 76°F in summer.

I thought the same thing.
In Southern California, open batt fiberglass insulation is preferred by builders for both walls and roofs. Cheap, easy to move to the job, cheap, easy to install, cheap and does a good job insulating structures. Did I mention it is cheap compared to other insulation types?
