I have just picked up a RS15 that was put out by Broadway, it is DC with sound, but the sound doesn’t seem to work, I am wondering if I need the sound controller to have the sound. also I have a 8 pin DCC that when I plug it in it works the train well, but it wont run the lights and the sound still wont work.
I am thinking that I might have a fried speaker maybe? The sound chip that came factory installed is supposed to have an address of 3 and I have an NCE cab, but I can’t seem to get the CV’s to change value.
So the sound doesn’t work in DC mode? When the locomotive is on the track and power is turned on about 1/3 way the sound should engage. I would seriously try to get it working right in DC mode before I introduced a decoder.
Was this new from the factory or is there a chance that someone else was monkeying with it before you got it?
Try resetting the CV8 to 8…once you get sound on address 3, then program then new address in using CV 17 and CV 18. Change the address to the one you just set to confirm sound output on the correct channel. Once that is confirmed, program your address on the additional decoder using a separate engine. Swap the new decoder into the BLI and it should run. That is how I just got a BLI SD40-2 to run over the weekend.
