I just got a Walthers Wood Chip Hopper. I want to model the load for it.
What would be appropriate material to use? I was thinking of using real saw dust.
Or are the wood chips larger in scale? Maybe chopped up wood match sticks?

I like the ones from Motrak Models. They are so cheap to buy and for the quality you get I don’t bother making any. You can get the link from Model Railcast links. Jeff offers free ship if you buy them in lots
BTW with the Walthers WC cars need a little tuning before use otherwise you have to drag them down a 3% grade. Nothing a trucker tuner won’t cure.
ratled
I’ll second ratled’s answer. I don’t have any wood chip hoppers or loads, but I do have 24 Motrak Models coal loads and scrap metal loads.
They make some awesome loads, and the price really isn’t all that bad.
Sawdust from a table saw or hand saw would work; maybe also the sawdust from a pencil sharpener
I just finished weathering it, and I ended up using saw dust. Came out looking pretty good I think.
Hey, that doesn’t look like sawdust.
It looks like wood chips to me.
Great job, Michael.
Rich
Thanks Rich.
How much wood can a woodchuck, chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? LOL
Everybody knows a woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood
“HEY YOU DANG WOODCHUCKS! QUIT CHUCKING MY WOOD!”
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
