I just got 4 Proto 1000 RDCs (all different road names) and will be repainting them for our club layout, (www.mckeesportmodelrr.org) and I want to keep the stainless look. What is the best way to accompli***his? I think that there was an article in MR a while ago about how to go about painting stainless steel, but I cannot remember the issue. In addition, I do have a Pasche airbrush and compressor.
Thanks for the help.
what abought aluminum paint
It was either early last year or late 2004 issue, I don’t have access to my issues. They used Alclad to get the stainless steel look. Basically, you have the paint the shell with gloss black, then apply the Alclad stainless steel over the top with an airbrush (which you have) and seal it with a clear finish.

I’ve repainted a few of the RDCs using Floquil Platinum Mist and they came out looking just like the factory paint on my other ones.
