I’m new to this hobby. I need help. My MTH locomotive runs fine with locomotive id 03. I decided to change the id to a 4 digit id with the Digitrax Zephyr xtra controller. Following the instruction from MTH manual I first assigned value 38 to CV29 to enable a 4 digit extended address. The locomotive acknowledge the change. I program the new 4 digit address by entering 0076 but the Zephyr only display 76 with no leading 00. I pressed the write CV. Now the locomotive is not responding to the new address 76 or the old address 03. I can not even start it up. I read a post from here that,
“Well I called MTH customer support today, and there is a way to reset the address to factory default 3. set the engine on the main, enter up loco #55, to into program on main. program loco 55, CV 55 with a value of 55. exit out and call up loco 3, preform start up and it should work. Worked on mine. If you want to re enable long addressing at this point, go back into programing for loco 3, at CV29 enter a value of 38.”
I wired the the Zephyr xtra in service mode and I tried using CV 55 in all modes DIR, OPS, PAGE, PHYS and no luck. Now I’ve a dead locomotive. Please help anyone …
The problem is that 76 is not a long address on Digitrax, it’s still a short address like 3. So MTH’s usual method of having the cab number already programmed as a long address and setting CV29 to 38 will never work.
The reset procedure is strictly using ops mode. The loco has to be ont he main track, and you select loco 55. Then press Program until the display says Po for Ops mode. Then hit CV, 55, CV, 55, CV-WR.
I purchased a used MTH loc, an SP GS-4 #4449 steamer. Runs fine on my old DC layout, but no lights (manual says they must have been turned off when previously used in DCC mode) I am in the process of slowly switching my layover to DCC. However, it will do nothing with my new NCE system which I just brought home and hooked up to a few feet of track I tested an Intermountain SP cabforward, and another MTH GS-4 (#4432). Both respond just fine as Loc 3 even the MTH when you do thier Fn3 startup thing.
I do not know if the former onwer went to 4 digit addressing, but I would llike to reset it to Loc 3 for now, so I can test it. I did try Loc address 4449, but that did not work either. Any suggestions? Will same reset procedure work with NCE Pro on the main, or do I have to set up a special programing track?
