Start at the main page for the forums:
Right up at the top, to the right of how posts are ordered (mine defaults to ‘Latest’) you will see an icon like a little square with a pencil in it. Click this to start a new thread.
You will be prompted to enter a topic. At one point there was a requirement that this be at least 15 characters long, and if it was not you would get some sort of message that it would have to be fixed before you could post the topic or thread.
The same mindset is reflected in response posts, which have to be several characters long, have some pretense of grammar, etc. In the old Telligent days of the Kalmbach forums, users were not allowed to delete posts, so we developed the convention of typing just one period (.) to denote a self-deleted post. We now have to type some clunky phrase or sentence to "express’ the same thing.
