New layout and new at DCC. Fired this baby up and it works great. However, my two Atlas loco’s with factory installed decoders sound scary when I start to throttle them to move. When up to speed the noise seems to stop. These loco’s aren’t brand new and they have been run some in the past. I messed around with the programing which changed some things, but not this problem. Any advice?
That is normal for the Atlas factory installed decoders(at least for the N scale ones, I don’t know about the HO scale ones). The only thing you can do about it is replace the decoder with a high frequency “silent drive” decoder. The buzzing is caused by the decoder sending the power to the motor in pulses, and “silent drive” decoders send the pulses at a high enough frequency to be beyond our range of hearing.
